500K hunters in 2025.

In one of the posts I saw the Projection, that the hunter decrease by 2025 will be 500,000 hunter in PA. Some rely on that figure as proof that hunters will not be exterminating the whitetail in the big woods.

I don't think that reasoning necessarily follows. By 2025, at current rates, how much less open hunting land will there be. How many new houses? How many will be plopped down in such a way that the safety zones occupy 14 acres. How many more parks, and closed hunting lands, leases etc. Will the hunter density on land open to hunting actually go down or will it increase?

That's about what Ohio has today. And NY is roughly 66,000 higher then that.Add in the land that will be lost to hunting and I'd say public land is going to be crowded.

I see leasing as a way for land owners to off set the ever increasing burden off property taxes.

Neither state has as much public land as PA does and never will have, so I don't see it becoming a problem? While SGLs and SF lands close to urban areas may be crowded, there are hundreds of thousands of acres of such lands in the NC, that seldom see much crowding. Why, because few ever venture far into them. Especially after opening day of firearms deer.

It will take far more than another 14 years, for any great land loss in the northcentral, due to any "urbanization".

I hope that number does not happen....however if it does, those 500k as well as myself will have some nice bucks to hunt (hopefully). Eventually if those numbers come and if they get even lower, PA will become a multi buck state i think

Drop the AR rule for a season or two along with multi buck and doe tags--

Those are the projections, unfortunately.

And by 2040? Gonacon is going to be what we shoot out of our guns instead of bullets.

You should come over and hunt these gamelands now.Crowded aint the word for it and it will only get worse as will many southern public lands where developement and posting are the norm.
