Should a handgun safety course be mandatory in PA?

I ran this idea past former Governor Ed Rendell and former Attorney General Tom Corbett and didn't recieve any response. I'd like to hear what others think. I believe foremost that both illegal (straw) purchases and accidental discharge in handguns would be dramatically reduced if the individual had to produce a certificate of handgun safety prior to being approved to purchase any handgun. What I had envisioned was a safe and responsible course similar to the Hunters' Safety course we had to pass before we could get our first hunting license when we were teenagers. Thanks in advance for your input.

Look through the gun control forum. We've had some long drawn out discussions on this very thing.

why would anyone favor more hoops to jump through to excercise your Constitutional right?

Nope... not all hunters have / carry handguns. There already is NRA courses you can voluntarily attend. I don't want anyone to create any more red tape for handgun owners...

Don't need new laws/requirements, just need to enforce the old ones.
