Re: October Commission Meeting

Anyone know what the Born free USA request was? IIRC, it had something to do with a change in the trapping regs. Not good.

Re: October Commission Meeting

I know. I remember them asking for some "humane" trap to be used- just can't recall the details? I'll see what I can kick up in notes or something

If there is any doubt of intent with this bunch:

Re: October Commission Meeting

The basis of their "request" most liely mirrors this on their send a comment page:

I was shocked by the recent undercover investigation by Born Free USA that documents outrageous and relentless cruelties imposed upon our state's wildlife by trappers. I was further appalled to learn that what few trapping regulations do exist are flouted by trappers, and that there seems to be little if any enforcement.

A majority of Pennsylvania residents value wildlife and the humane treatment of animals. At minimum Pennsylvania should:

-- Prohibit the use of all body-gripping traps and snares on public lands.

-- Implement requirements for how trapped animals will be killed and explicitly prohibit drowning, chest crushing, strangulation, suffocation and bludgeoning.

-- Require that all traps be checked at least once every 24 hours.

-- Increase enforcement efforts.

The damage trapping inflicts on our state's wildlife and the cruel methods used by trappers to kill captured animals are completely incompatible with the state's responsibility to protect wildlife and to serve the public interest.

I ask you to take immediate steps to protect wildlife and to better balance the interests of the public in our state. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Don't miss their "Trapping Investigation Footage".

I talked to the gal from Born Free after the last meeting for a little bit....to get a feel as to what they stood for as I never heard of them. I think I made mention of it on the board here in the last meeting thread. These folks are not going to go away quietly.

Re: October Commission Meeting

They had a representative come to speak at one of the earlier BOC meeting this year, but I've forgotten what they wanted?

It is essentially yet another "animal rights" org, IRRC?

Re: October Commission Meeting

Yep. They wanted to change trapping regulations Denny. Working on learning the details.
