Pigeon shoot ban

Passed the Senate overwhelmingly (36 to 12) last night, back to the House for concurrence.

The beginning continuation of yet more HSUS influence on The Hill, as they've been lobbying for such a ban here for a very long time.

And lest anyone ever forget, the end game that HSUS seeks, is an end to all recreational hunting and trapping everywhere. Give them Round One.

Re: Pigeon shoot ban

And for Pennsylvania, that is a very big round one. They have had their sights on us for a very long time as a state with high support for hunting and the shooting sports. This opens the door to pheasant, quail and chukar hunts. Plus it shows that now a majority of our elected officials are willing to jump on board with HSUS initiatives, when they were previously largely given the cold shoulder by most.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Yeah, I'm sure the quail/chukar/pheasant preserves won't have long till they're next up on the block with HSUS.

Re: Pigeon shoot ban

Isn't Pa one of the only if not the only state where these pigeon shoots were still legal? The preserves will be fine.

Re: Pigeon shoot ban

Apparently Martz's, one of the premiere pay-to-hunt preserves, doesn't agree with that position? Some of the previous attempts at bans on pigeon shoots were pushed as a "live bird shoot" ban.

Quote:
Some see it as a steppingstone for a future attack on the game bird raising and hunting preserve industries.

"While Martz's Gap View Hunting Preserve and Martz's Game Farm do not conduct pigeon shoots as part of our business, we also know this is the first step in the HSUS and other animal rights' groups goal of banning all forms of hunting," said Mike Martz, general partner of Martz's Game Farm and vice president of Martz's Gap View Hunting Preserve in Dalmatia.

"If this bill passes in its current language, our industry will be next in the cross hairs."
Small step from banning organized pigeon shoots, to banning any organized live bird shoot. The first step, was a ban on pigeon shoots.

Re: Pigeon shoot ban

Some folks just can't "imagine" what lies ahead once HSUS has pried open the door here in PA.

All one really has to do, is comprehend what they're all about, but it is apparently too hard a hill to climb for some?

Re: Pigeon shoot ban

Placing term limits at the behest of the senate to re-appoint only greases the way for HSUS.

Worse, there is absolutely noting to stop the GOV and the friendly senate from appointing a HSUS person to either the GC or PFBC BOC - NOTHING.

To put the point on it, other states have done exactly that... so when the nomination is made - they just point to the other states.

The bill was amended in the senate, so it needs concurrence in the house on the 20th.

One last chance to stop it.

Is your position a short term gain - or a long term loss? Separate the issues.

Yep and with all indications pointing towards Wolf as our next Governor, that idiotic four year commissioner term change makes things ripe for just such a scenario.

Terms were set at eight years precisely to hinder any Governor from stacking commissions with people picked to do an administrations' bidding. All out the window, now.

Wolf will be no friend to hunters, gun owners and either wildlife agency.
