Earth Day: The Loons and Out of Touch Emote Preach.
Preach is an accurate word. They preach fear so that they can control others in the many social "quasi" nature / science directions. Global warming and animal rights are the two biggest pushes by the environmentalists or green's.
In this effort, the environmentalists have coop'd the conservation ethic and so diluted the differences those that oppose the leftist and socially controlling, politically correct themes and actions find it hard to stand or act in a conversationalist manner without being labeled as the opposition.
There is a fine line in these efforts. As many acknowledge and lament, many environmental laws seek to stop progress or raise the barriers and cost so much many just give up. For the greater society, the hoops and checks of environmental compliance has swung to far to the left.
Conservation is best defined as wise use. Yes, we harvest the trees for all things trees are used for. But we do it in a manner that ensures the trees return to the landscape starting the process over. We farm the land, but in a manner that does not degrade the land or those things nature has placed upon them. We hunt and fish, but limit the take and protect and seek to enhance the lands and water that support the wildlife.
One group wants animals and trees to have rights as each of us enjoy. They seek to minimize mans place in the world. They seem to want man to become extinct giving animals and nature more value and relevance.
The other group subscribes to the theory that our resources are to be used and enjoyed by all with the equal responsibility to ensure we never return to the sins of our grandfathers and their fathers of stripping the land and poisoning the waters.
Rivers are not suppose to burn. Steams coming out of the mountains and springs is suppose to be pure. But, as Pennsylvanians we know this is not true. While our rivers are far cleaner than that of the late 60's. We still have the vestiges of the 18th and 19th century to contend with. Even aged forests, acid mine drainage, improperly disposed of waste (industrial and otherwise) - and more.
Yet it is the conservationists that takes theses problems and seeks to repair the damage and actually use them for profit and restoration. Removing high wall mines, spoil piles, and coal methane for market and remediation those areas with things to control acid mine drainage. We reclaim strip mines with plants that help control erosion that clogs our streams with sediment and harms our fish and aquatic animals. Conservationists do this and so much more.
More than anything else, conservationists do the work and pay the freight for most of the rest of society. In our backwards knuckle dragging manner we provide the money and the organizations that actual produce the results the others talk about. Conservationists, hunters and fishermen joined by other outdoors people make nature and natural places possible for the rest of society. We do this with taxes paid on the equipment we buy for our respective sports.
But more importantly, we provide nature to others with the physical labor as individuals and part of groups and organizations locally, statewide, and nationally. Conservationists are boots on the ground, shovels, picks, and heavy equipment with a healthy dose of chainsaw wielding nature loving wildlife home improvement experts.
In that - the lefty's can never touch us. But they do coop us, our title, our go stand on it preservation efforts, sweat and blood habitat / stream and restoration achievements. The other side looks at each of us as hunters, fishermen, and trappers as the problem. Add the foresters, farmers and anyone else that does not subscribe to their thinking and social controlling tactics as well.
So on this earth day - stand on your soap box and proudly state you are a hunter - a fisherman - a forester, farmer, or other person they hate and rejoice. You are the one actually making a physical difference. Those that oppose you just rile up others with talk, accept donations, and seek to foment more gloom and doom.
So while your on your soap box - be sure to mention they don't get down and dirty where it counts - we do.
