Bamboo Fly Rod raffle to benefit the wounded vets

Hi all,
we have a 8' 6" Jim Payne 3/1 bamboo fly rod for a 5 weight line in excellent condition to raffle to raise funds to solely benefit the wounded veterans through Project Healing Waters, Bamboo Project. http://www.projecthealingwaters.org

The rod was made in 1951 and comes with a new cloth bag and new brass capped aluminum rod tube.

I had to strip the old varnish off as it was chipped badly, then recoat it with new Helmsman Spar Urethane to a glass-like finish. Mostly all the wraps are original and in great condition! A few wraps had to be redone (in color correct silk thread) to put this rod back into excellent condition. There are absolutely no cracks, hook digs, fractures or delaminations present on this fine piece. It still has all original tight-fitting ferrules, cork handle, snake guides, and the reel seat has the screw uplocking ring stamped with Reg. US Pat. Off. below the Payne name. I've been told the model number is a 204 but I cannot verify this info. See pictures below.....

The tickets sell for $5 each and the lucky winner's stub will be pulled on October 8th.

Ticket money is due at my home no later than October 1st.

You may purchase any amount of tickets that you care to, but we cannot give you your favorite 4 digit number. Please make out a check, made payable to PHWFF BAMBOO for the tickets you would like and include a self addressed, stamped envelope. Send to me at:

Bamboo Rod Raffle

Hunker, Penna. 15639

ALL proceeds go directly for food, lodging, transportation and rod fees that we coordinate for these events exclusively for their enjoyment. This is a great way to indirectly help us help these heroes assimilate back into some type of a normal lifestyle, give them confidence to try something challenging, yet rewarding, while overcoming their issues related to war. You, in return, have a chance to win, then own a beautiful rod that most flyfishermen can't afford!

Of course, if you have an old bamboo fly rod or even just rod parts and/or components that you'd like to donate for the vets to use, you may also send them to me at the same address above.

Thank you very much for your support!
Joe

P.S. PLEASE do not make any checks out to me, or send cash. I simply forward all monies to the PHWFF office in LaPlata, Md. after verifying how many tickets you wish to buy........

Re: Bamboo Fly Rod raffle to benefit the wounded vets

Hi everyone,
I'm happy to announce Chris Frost has won the Payne rod raffle! Congrats, Chris!

I hope to get a pic posted here soon of him holding his new toy!!

A gracious "Thank You" to all those who purchased tickets for this worthy cause!! The monies generated from this raffle will be used exclusively for our 3rd Annual ALL BAMBOO Event on the famed Rose River Farm in Syria, Va. On the first weekend of December, 2013. Only wounded and/or disabled veterans are permitted to fly fish that weekend, and MUST do so with nothing other than a bamboo fly rod that either they already own OR one given to them as their own to keep, free of charge!

We will be having an unused Orvis Battenkill 7'6" 2/2 bamboo fly rod to raffle after New Year's, so look for an announcement with details.

Tight lines,
Joe Pacacha
