Christmas on Hatteras

My wife and I are considering next Christmas in Buxton NC. Is the fishing any good at that time of year? What can you catch out of the surf?

Re: Christmas on Hatteras

they're catching a lot of puppy drum right now off the surf there. You'll need to keep up with the bridge issues though. The Bonner Bridge (Oregon inlet) was closed for two months due to eroding pylons. They had to re activate the Rodanthe to Stumpy point ferry. It was a 2.5hr ride plus anywhere from a 1 to 3 hr wait to get on each way. They pumped fill under the pylons and now have the bridge open to cars and light trucks, but no-one knows how long it will stay open. This can all be accredited to the eco-wackers who keep blocking the construction of a new bridge. Their goal is to have the island shut down or at least eliminate the road into it.

Re: Christmas on Hatteras

Well i just booked a week in Avon in June so they best get busy bridge building. We might do two this year.

K-man we talked about doing a Christmas down there, let me know how that goes if you go.

Re: Christmas on Hatteras

the bridge is now open for at least light traffic. I don't know if they're permitting big rigs over it yet. They're monitoring it real close and could close it again if deemed unsafe. I'll try to keep this thread updated if I hear any changes.
