December striper question

Put together a group from work this past spring and we did a charter for stripers in the chesapeake. We caught our limit, had a great time and all agreed we wanted to do it again.
When we were out, I asked the captain when big striper start returning to the bay. He told us December would be a good time to come back for a chance at the bigger fish returning. Is this about right? Or would we be better served to just wait for the trophy season in the spring?
Any help would be appreciated, whether by PM or attached here. We're trying to figure out if we want to give it a go in December, or if it's not worth it, wait until the spring.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: December striper question

Depends on what part of the Bay. We usually fish Tangier and Pocomoke Sounds and the big migratory fish usually show up around Thanksgiving. The timing depends on water temperature. Too warm and the fish stay in the ocean and rarely pass the CBBT. Too cold and they bypass the bay and head for the North Carolina coast.

Thanks for the reply G. We may rethink and go for a better bet on a spring trip.

Re: December striper question

Was planning a trip to take the boat down this weekend but wind and rain are delaying us. Will wait to see what next weekend looks like. May pack in a couple of days between Thanksgiving and deer season.

Could be non stop action this time of year.

Past Saturday my radar lite up with the bird play.Gulls darkened the sky feeding on the bait the Stripers were forcing to the surface.
35" / 42" Bass on 12 pound test spinning rods/ 1 1/2 bucktails with sea rind

18 pound Bluefish mixed in.Uuuughh (oilcans) but fun to catch

South Jersey area off the beach.

That bite will be from MA.all the way down the coast typically to NC.

We trailed a 26 Regulator down to VA Beach 2 years ago second week of January and hammered them.
