Fall Surf Fishing

Took the kids for a shakedown cruise over to LBI for some beach time Sun morning. A little foggy water was warm rather have it more seasonally adjusted so to speak. Anyway, was doing the light tackle thing, looking for kingies, blues etc... Nada, nothing but the skunk.
Oh well, hoping for some cooler temps so the striped ones start to show. Other than that good luck to anyone else hitting the beaches...

Re: Fall Surf Fishing

I have been at the southern part of the shore last 2 weekends. Once at Townsends Inlet and this weekend Ocean City. Pretty slow, just a few small blues.

Re: Fall Surf Fishing

Good Luck. We like LBI as well and IBSP. Did you fish LBI 2 years ago during some of the epic blitzes on sand eels?

Re: Fall Surf Fishing

Not LBI, had the pass for IBSP 2years ago. Week before thanksgiving was insane, epic to say the least. Majority of my fish taken were on Ava jigs that fall. If I had the time this week looks like its shaping up nicely up north jersey with this nor'easter...

Re: Fall Surf Fishing

Yep, that's exactly when we were there. Funny thing, a guy I work with invited me to go fish the surf for the first time that year. I didn't have any gear so I grabbed the heaviest freshwater bass rod I had thinking I would be good to go. Well, I hooked one for about 2 seconds on an Ava and he broke off. Since that moment I have been on a mission to catch a striper in the surf. It's my new addiction. I have fished my entire life, but the enormity and power of the surf and the fish in it is awesome.

Re: Fall Surf Fishing

They are calling for rain with on shore winds for the next few days. When I was down over the weekend the water temps were running upper 60's. Heard the surf and jetty jockeys were getting weaks, flounder and spot, small blues, there were reports some red drum have been taken from the beaches. Mullet seems to be the hot bait.
Water is still to warm for much to happen in the way of stripers but you never know.

My ability to remember lyrics from songs of the 60's far exceed my ability to remember why I walked into the kitchen

Re: Fall Surf Fishing

Bucks, light tackle is alot of fun but sometimes you;ll need some heavier gear! But I agree with Birch, might a lil warm, even though there might be some resident stripers laying in the deeper holes or hanging along the jetties. Remember fishing the beach is about being aware of the layout so to speak, where the deeper parts are...
Good luck with AI.
