Sea Isle NJ Fishing Report

Just spent 2 weeks down there for vacation. The surf is nice and warm and there were a lot of spot and kingfish. The spot were sometimes so thick they were a nuisance stealing the blood worms but we caught more than enough kings for some great fish dinners and I cleaned some of the bigger spot and they were tasty too. A lot of fun for kids because it can be non stop action. Low tide was by far the best for the kings and spot.
We caught 5 small striped bass over a couple nights we targeted them. One was a keeper, barely, at 28".
The flounder fishing was decent- we tried for them about 5 times in the back bay and we got 12 keepers to 23" over the vacation. The last hour of incoming and high slack seemed to be best for them. The crabbing was better than it usually is for us and even though it would be ~ 4 to 1 throwback to keeper ratio we ended up with 20-30 nice jimmies every time we went.
Clamming was excellent. I found a new little sand bar and I would get my 150 limit in less than an hour. This was a great house we rented it had a great boat slip and super nice neighbors that let us borrow their 2 kayaks. All in all a great vacation and I seriously need to go on a diet from all the seafood and Yuengling. Pic is my son and daughter with flounder from the most productive trip- 5 keepers.

Very nice, this year seems to be a good flounder year on the east coast. September/October in the surf ought to be unbelievable in the surf for flounder.

Bonecollector the spinning combo in the picture is pretty good for most of the fishing down there. Its about 6.5 feet with a medium heavy action. I usually have the reel spooled with ~20 lb braid because I like that better for flounder-doesn't stretch like mono. For flounder the most productive rig we used was a 1/2 to 3/4 oz bucktail with a strip of spot or other fish on it with a hook attached with a dropper loop about 15" above the bucktail. We usually fish a minnow off the hook but Gulp 4" swimming minnows work well also. Good luck fishing down there.
