White Perch Run Lower Susquehanna

Today we did some shad and perch fishing from shore. Unfortunately the area we were fishing is closed for stripers until June 1. A lot of cool stuff going on...herring and perch were spawning and there were some big stripers around. I landed and released 2 small stripers on a small spoon I use for shad. We caught a few shad but switched to white perch fishing. The perch fishing was really good. I also had 2 big stripers eat perch I was reeling in and snap my 4 lb mono. I had to of landed close to 100 perch mostly smalls to medium but I did get 16 slabs for frying. Had them for dinner tonight and they were outstanding.

A nice mild firm white meat. Similar to bluegill and walleye. Way better than the stocked trout we've been eating.

Good trip Whaler!! Before moving my boat to VA I'd launch either at Port's town ramp or susky State Park Lapidum ramp and run down just above 95 bridge eastside river and hammer the big white perch in the 20-25' water. Mid April/early May normally was best. A blast on light tackle plus fine eating.
