Striped Bass Input Solicitation
Just a heads-up knowing a number of folks here fish some of the MD tributaries for stripers.

IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO PROVIDE INPUT ON SPRING MEASURES WHICH MAKE UP MARYLAND DNR'S FULL 2020 PLAN FOR STRIPED BASS
ADDITIONAL COMMENT PERIODS WILL OCCUR AT A LATER DATE TO REVIEW OTHER MEASURES RELATED TO THE SUMMER/FALL/WINTER FISHERY.
Tuesday at 11:59pm is your last chance to provide public input to DNR on their proposed regulation to:
Renew the circle hook regulation we have had in place in 2018 and 2019 for live lining and chumming.
Starting the Trophy Season on May 1
Closing March and April for targeting or Catch & Release fishing for striped bass.
CCA Maryland SUPPORTS the renewal of the circle hook regulation, and changing of the trophy season start.
CCA Maryland OPPOSES the closure of March and April for targeting of striped bass for the following reasons:
Maryland's own catch and release studies show that recreational fishing under current regulations in March and April is a non-consumptive practice with little to no mortality for released fish.
MRIP Catch and Effort estimates which drive the calculations of conservation savings for March and April are highly inaccurate and imprecise, further undermining the public trust in management at this time.
Striped bass spawning areas are closed to targeting in March and April, a measure in place since 1990 to protect striped when aggregated and preparing to spawn. These areas are separated from where catch and release fishing occurs.
