Fish are slowly starting to show up in NJ. Fished Saturday 11/9 out of GE inlet and headed north to troll. Put lines in north of AC and trolled towards BI. Marked a lot of fish and bait but no takers. Ended up finding a few pods of birds working fish on top and landed two fish and dropped one. One fish went 40” and the other 42”. Both fish released unharmed.
Very nice fish Wish you would scare a few down South Jersey way.
Not much happening here yet in the ocean or Delaware Bay, just some little guys in the back bay that must go back.
Even some of the more successful charter boats are doing nothing and have plenty of openings, translating into the showing in South jersey has been so poor the past few seasons people are moving North to try for stripers. Last season I trolled from Cold Springs Inlet up to Townsends Inlet and back only to lose baits to bluefish.
Normally I leave the big boat in till after deer season or after the Christmas Holidays but I pulled it out this year the 2nd week of October.
The fish that are coming down this way south are well outside the 3 mile line, chasing sand eels and bunker and are untouchable under the regs.
Glad to see others getting in on some fantastic fishing and hopefully fish return to the Rips and Delaware Bay again soon.
Good Luck to anyone getting out.
My ability to remember lyrics from songs of the 60's far exceed my ability to remember why I walked into the kitchen
Usually drifting eels is done in the back or inlets not as much out front. As for the fish seems to be the initial push south. I normally run out of Corsons but striper season move up to GE inlet. Shaping up to be a half decent season just a little later then normal. A lot of the fish being caught now are loaded with sand eels.
11/23 Unreal day. Crested GE Inlet around 7AM headed north. Game plan was to find birds and fish them. Not until 9AM had a lot of birds flying one direction and followed and found the mother load. Had one other boat on the flock for 15 minutes and then they left. Spent close to 2 hours on these birds solo. Caught over 30 bass from 26-45” on top water, soft plastics, and flies. Absolutely insane action had the fish finder lit up. Was even able to jig a few fish up. Had the boat tripled up multiple times. Kept one fish at 28” all other safely released. Did pay my dues as I lost an insert to one of my rods. After that couple guys trolling broke the fish and bait up and birds disappeared. Was the Dead Sea from 1130-2 when we found another pod with some boats on it. Picked a few here and there but nothing like the morning. Probably one of my best days of fall striper fishing.
