What is this fish saltwater jersey

I've been saltwater fishing for years and never seen a fish like this either has my dad especially caught in jersey it was squishy feeling really soft and smooth and king of like a goby I have at home in my tank. I caught it in Cape may today by the ferry port. It was smooth and really squishy soft feeling with whiskers on both sides sorry bad photo

It looks like a juvinile hardheaded catfish.
Get it checked out and let us know

It looks like a red hake, commonly called ling on the east coast, also called a squirrel hake. No minimum size, and no possession limit. They are often caught when bottom or wreck fishing for seabass or cod. Once considered trash, they are actually very good eating when they get big enough to filet and some boats target them in the summer.

I boated 4 nice ones while seabassing today, and they will be getting breaded and fried for lunch tomorrow!
