i would like to gather a few friends and head north caribou hunting with a rifle. my uncle went with a guide in the early 1990s and had a blast. i realize priced have increased, but am wondering if there are any outfitters doing drop camps for a reasonable cost?
There are alot of options out there right now, depending on what you get. I know of drop camps for as low as $1700 that give you no food and you have to take your own gear and can shoot one caribou. To places where for $3100 you get flown into a camp with equipment and food for the week and can shoot two caribou.
Drop camp is the way to go. If the caribou are there, you do not need a guide to kill them. If they aren't there, no guide is going to help you. All a caribou guide really is, is a pack mule for when the shooting is done.
I've killed 9 caribou from Quebec to Newfoundland to Alaska. If it were me, I'd be headed to Alaska. Good luck.
winter hunt yes season has been moved back ?? i think it starts about Dec 1 now ,HOPEFUlLY they are crossing the road while you are there ,, have been up 5 times taken 8 caribou ,one year we had to rent snowmobiles to go where they was at ,, i have seen some decent bulls ,shot some nice ones also
