Elk drop camp CO or MT?

There is a group of 4 of us that are looking to do a self guided drop camp hunt next fall. We are looking at either Colorado or Montana based on tag availability. Has anyone done this type of hunt or have any suggestions on outfitters?

Colorado would be your best bet for over the counter tags...

You doing archery or rifle ? Can be a big difference between resident and migrating herds.

It's a good spot. Just not today.

I did a drop camp hunt with Broken Arrow Outfitters out of Alder Montana. Erwin and Sherry run a great operation and are in the heart of the largest elk herd in Montana. Check their website, references, and they are at the Harrisburg Show main hall. Good luck!

We are looking to do a rifle hunt and I think there is mule deer overlap with certain areas in both states.

For Montana or Idaho you can do a lot worse that this outfit.
They offer drop camps in both Montana and Idaho.
I know this outfit has some good locations as I hunt around their areas in Montana and have spent some time scouting close to their Idaho camps. Keep in mind you will pack in away from the day foot hunting crowd.
I am considering a drop camp from them this year in Idaho as they offer an earlier season that will extend my hunting adventures.
Good Luck
Bitterroot.

Try WTR Outfitters in Montana!
We use to do drop camps for the early rifle bugle season in September. Not sure if they still do them, but it was some good hunting in the Bob Marshall!

I understand WTR was sold a few years back. I need to look into them and see if they still offer the drop camp option?

Yes, I think they were sold! It's been a few years since I've been there but it's my understanding that their operation is run the same as the Hooker's ran theirs.
