Give York Outfitters a look, they are out of Grangeville. Went Lion hunting a couple years back, they shoot a few color phase every year and John is a good fella to deal with.

Not an endorsement just an FYI, Cabela's has a couple reduced rate hunts. I was looking at them as I will be in Idaho in May.

Re: coler phase bear in idaho

I've been hunting with York Outftters for the last 3 springs and it is the most enjoyable camp I've ever been to. This spring I had to cancel for the first week of camp and it still has not been filled. He told me he would take 2-3 people for my week for $2200 each. This hunt is a $2900 hunt. This is a 2 bear area with a very good chance for a color phase.
I am going elk hunting with him this fall and will be back bear hunting next spring. If anyone would like to talk to me about this hunt just let me know.

I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Re: coler phase bear in idaho

Several years ago my cousin shot a brown blackbear in the sawtooth range of Idaho. I'm pretty sure that's where it was. He lives there, and mentions that about half the black bears he sees up there are not black.

Re: coler phase bear in idaho

We went with Russell Pond Outfitters as well and wouldnt go back if it was free. Sure 3 out of 6 got bears and my wife got a color phase bear, but it was not fun. The guys kids took over our camp that year and it was a booze fest. 24/7 either drinkin or recovering form the nite before. They made some game law errors and gave no effort. Care of the animal after the kill was horrible. Not even average cape ability and they let stuff sit while they ate. They were very unfriendly and hard to have a conversation with. They spent most of the time hanging out in their camper with their GF's. The owner "dad" didnt seem to care when we saw them on the way out. They even told the next guys to be in camp that we got 5 for 6 when they got to the hotel. To bad we went to dinner with them earlier and they knew the lie.

I will say it is a beautiful place and the bears are there to be had. Just not what I want when I spend that kind of money. I hope his kids are done with guiding and some real guides take there place.
