Max Schwab Alaskan Master Guide

I am about to pull the trigger on a hunt with Max. It will be for dall sheep and maybe moose. I have talked with several past hunters both successful and unsuccessful. They all had nothing but positive remarks about this outfitter. Has anyone on here had experience with Max or know of someone that did. I'm a working man and this hunt will be a lot of financial discipline on my part till it's starting date of August 2014. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated!

talk to him once when I lived in AK. Seemed like a really nice guy. He's been in business for a long time so I'd say you're in good hands. sorry if this doesnt help much.

Re: Max Schwab Alaskan Master Guide

Thanks for replying. I wasn't sure I'd get any responses. The last couple of days I have been talking with past hunters and I've gotten great reviews. It seems to me like he runs a great operation!

No problem. Most of the guys in business that long have got their crap together. AK is a small place, believe it or not, and word of shady outfitters/transporters get spead real fast.

Did Max write a book a while back about his guiding experience? I think he did. What are you going after? Oh do I miss AK! I'm jealous man. good luck.!

Re: Max Schwab Alaskan Master Guide

Not sure about the book but if I find it I will surely buy and read it. The trip will be for dall for sure and maybe moose. If I take my goat in 6 weeks in BC I will be a sheep away from the Super 10. I wish I got stationed up there in the service. I know I'd still be there. The gf and I are doing a cruise up there next September so I'll have to work on the warm weather beach girl. Appreciate your input!

Good luck bro. that's a very impressive accomplishment! I have hunted both goats and sheep in AK and it's the most difficult thing i've ever done. I never filled my tags but one of the most memorable time in AK being on the mountains.

BTW, it's Harold Schetzle who wrote the book I was thinking about, not Max.

Re: Max Schwab Alaskan Master Guide

When I posted this thread a hunter from New York by the name of Angelo had a google alert set on this same topic. He was able to get in touch with me before his hunt. He had a bad experience hunting for sheep before and knew what I was going through. Angelo would be hunting sheep with Max this year and he would be gracious enough to give me an honest opinion of his operation. Here's a couple pics from his recent trip!

Congrats Angelo and thanks for the feedback! Fuel added to my fire for sure!

Bob,

Lites my fire too!

I always enjoy looking at pics from Alaska and especially success pics. Looks like an old timer, congrats to the hunter.
