Montana outfitters

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with either of the following outfitters Broken Arrow in Alder, MT and Swan Mountain Outfitters , Swan Lake, MT. I talked to both of these outfitter at the H-burg show. I am looking into an elk/muley combo, rifle season and possible archery.
Any input regarding your experience is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Montana outfitters

I have hunted with Erwin from Borken Arrow Outfitters twice. The first time I hunted fully guided with him and took a cow. Erwin put me on a big 6x6 in the timber but the bull saw me move and I couldn't get a good shot on him after he bolted. I wasn't disappointed with the cow elk meat though. During that trip I saw 500 elk. The next trip I did was a DIY hunt with two of my friends. They took us in on horses to a set up camp with great food, equipment, and awesome scenry. I shot a nice 4x4 the first day of the hunt just after first light. My friend took a cow 2 days later. My other friend an older hunter was having truoble with his knee and the deep snow we had gotten. If it wasn't for that he would have most likely taken an elk too. They have been in business for a long time and are a small family run operation. I'd hunt with them again and plan to in the near future. Best of luck with your choice and good huntin!

Re: Montana outfitters

big28, thanks for the info. When did you hunt with Erwin? Was it a rifle or archery hunt? Did you see many mule deer? When you were there was there any issues with wolves?
Thanks,

Re: Montana outfitters

In 2007 I hunted the same area with Upper Canyon Outfitters.
We saw no sign of wolves, but there were warning signs for grizzly bears.

Re: Montana outfitters

2005 fully guided saw grizzly sign and 2007 black bear and wolf sign. Both times with a rifle and the opening week of the season. Saw mule deer and whitetails both times but not in great numbers. Good luck and your welcome!
