Alaska, Here I come - Part 2
A few weeks ago RatherBeHunting posted on here about awaiting his Alaska Dall sheep hunt. I heard from him today, but will let him tell the results when he gets back.
for the part 2 aspect. I am leaving for my own Alaska trip next Tuesday, August 30th. I will be hunting grizzly and caribou. I have never been to AK before. This is the dream trip of my hunting life. I have wanted to hunt griz for as long as I can remember and have finally gotten into a position where I can. I have been workinbg out since January and have lost 35 pounds so far. Also been jogging, hiking with a pack, lifting weights and doing the treadmill and elyptical for an hour apiece at the gym. In short I'm in the best shape I've been in over 15 years.
My trip is a fly-in backpack hunt for 10 days. I'm taking my Ruger Hawkeye in .338 Winmag, shooting 250 grain Hornady Interlocks.
I will be gone 15 days total and cannot wait to sleep in a tent where wolves and grizzlies rule the world and I am not the top fo the food chain. Cannot wait to fish for grayling and sit on top of mountains and be deafened by the silence. I cannot wait to not hear a phone or tv, to not receive bills in the mail and just get away from everything.
Right now, the anticipation of the immediate week before a big trip, is one of my favorite parts of it. I hope someday all of you get to fulfill your "hunting dream" also. I will post pics when I get back, which should be September 13th.
