Upland bird hunting in Wisconsin

Can anyone recommend an outfitter service or places to go. I don't need a guide with a dog. I have two of those. I really want to get them on some wild birds. Type of bird doesn't really matter. I would like the chance to take more than one species though.

Also does anyone know anything about the lottery system for sharptail grouse?

I may be wrong but I dont think there are sharptails in Wisconsin. I think you have to go to the Dakotas for Sharptails.
Pa. has good grouse hunting and woodcock hunting. Why not hunt here in Pa.
A couple people I know went to Wisconsin and were very dis-appointed in there results of the birds seen.

I have a good friend who is retired and lives in
Hudson,Wi., western part of the State. He hunts a couple
of Springers almost everyday and seems to do well with
pheasants and grouse.
I'll ask him if he has any pointers for you. He hunts public land.
Never heard him mention Sharptails.

Why Wisconsin? Don't get me wrong, there is decent upland hunting in Wisconsin but if you go a little farther West the hunting is "outstanding". I always thought Minnesota was a sleeper state. The cost isn't that much more and it is not something you are going to do everyday,so why not go for it!

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

Re: Upland bird hunting in Wisconsin

I am looking at a couple of different states. Minnesota is one of them, but there state government is shut down right now so you can't buy tags Wisconsin's grouse numbers are supposed to be up by 30%. They are also at or near there peak in the population cycle. So I want to go this year or next if I can. Wisconsin also has cheaper licenses by a couple of bucks.

Re: Upland bird hunting in Wisconsin

I talked to my buddy that lives in St.Croix County,Wi.
He told me that when he moved out there he got a County
map from the DNR and it is marked with all the public
hunting grounds. He got a few of the nearby County maps
and still uses them. He's never seen a Sharptail.

Re: Upland bird hunting in Wisconsin

Thanks for the info. I only mentioned sharptails as I saw there is a special permit for them in WI.
