Re: Turkey hunting Nebraska
I hunted near Stuart 3 years ago. Stuart is about 50 miles sw of Lynch. I was there around the first of May and the birds were gobbling good and responsive. I would go later in April vs earlier.
If Lynch is like Stuart, it is wide open ag land with small islands of hardwoods. All the birds I saw, photographed and the one I killed, looked just like Rios from Texas. Rios were stocked in central NE in the early 60's so I assume that is why the Stuart birds look like they do. I then headed west and hunted near Valentine and run into Merriams and some Rio/Merriam hybrids there.
Sorry to get side tracked but turkeys are a passion of mine. Nebraska has a lot of turkeys, you'll have fun. Best of luck to you.
