Mirage caribou outfitters

I went to Mirage in 2005 and had a great experience, great meals. I went back in 2008, but it had been bought out, and meals were not what they had been before and they increased their rate by about $600. I started looking at other outfitters in the area for 2011 and I see that Mirage's website claims the old ownership is back in control. The price is back down where it was in 2007 and they are now advertising 4 nights stay. Did anyone here go up in the last 2 months (Nov & Dec)?

Re: Mirage caribou outfitters

Mirage is back in old hands, but the problem is the caribou. George River herd is crashing, under 100,000. There is likely to be no sporthunting at all soon. Many of the outfitters are folding, and guys are losing a lot of money. The winter hunts aren't as much money to lay out, but you're out of luck if there's not a 'bou for 100 miles around your camp. I was in Quebec this fall, and had a wonderful time. But I was very well informed, and very, very careful with my money. Given what's happened in the last couple months, I don't think I'll ever be able to go back. Read a few pages on the caribou hunting forum here:
