Verona Plantation

It's almost here. My early rifle hunt at Verona Plantation. It is Lily Pond Creek's trophy area. 14" min inside spread, 8 pt min. Jackson, NC.

Leaving Wednesday to hunt Thursday thru Saturday and come home Sunday.

Hopefully I can post a pic when I get back.

using a .308 that I had built at a gunsmith down in Skippack. Had it at the Rt 6 range (SGL 183) four times now. Last time at the 100 YD range five targets. Five Shots. Each target exactly dead center and 2.5" high. I'm thinking 50 yd to 200 yd hold right on the boiler room. Ran a dry patch thru it and put it in the case for transport.

I'm itching now.

Re: Verona Plantation

Driving down tomorrow. Hunt Thu, Fri, Sat. All week down there has been in the 80's and RAIN. Tomorrow 87 and rain tapering off. My first hunt, Thursday, 70's and clear. FRIDAY, get this, 60 degree high and clear. Saturday, 60's and clear. I'm feeling pretty lucky. Cold front and no rain. I got lucky with the weather for sure.

20-degree drop in temp and no rain and the rut is on. Wish me well - I'm psyched.

Re: Verona Plantation

Got a little buck. The four guys I was with all took LARGE bucks. 148 B/C; 159 B/C; 130 B/C; and 120 B/C. I shot an embarrassing little buck but had alot of fun and brought him back whole, he's at Smokin Joes Butcher Shop in Hamlin right now. They're good by the way. $60.00 for a "regular" cut. I highly recommend this outfitter. Saw deer at every sit. The minimum is hard to sit for when seeing so many bucks. I confess, I had to pay the $300 outfitter-imposed fine for not meeting the minimum. We had an outstanding guide. Excellent properties totaling 9,000 + acres. Anyone considering hunting with them, I highly recommend.

Re: Verona Plantation

Someday you and I gotta do a hunt Sab. It was a fun hunt. I had something came up and had to leave a day early. Could've stayed and killed two does onthe last day but had to leave early. I'll be back next year, that's for sure.
