Deer photos - age, gender, potential?

Hi folks,

I have just started to figure out good deer habitat and trails in the last year. This past week I set-up in a new spot that seemed promising. It was much better than expected - have more than 100+ photos in a week.

I think most are bucks so have linked to those pictures below. I'd appreciate your help in explaining to me:
a) Are these all bucks? (some are obvious)
b) Estimate on their age?
c) Anything unusual about the deer?

These were taken along a trail that I think is being used to get from bedding cover to feeding areas. I'm not able to bait.

Deer 1 - Looks like two nub antlers starting to grow

Deer 2 - Same as deer 1 or are the antlers more developed?

Deer 3 - Looks like one side of antlers is developing fast than the other

Deer 4 - buck or doe? (I thought buck because of the raised forehead area)

Deer 5 - Same as deer 4?

Deer 6 - Same as deer 1 or different buck?

Deer 7 - How old does this guy look to be? Is he developing antlers early or will this be a big rack?

Thanks for the help!

1. Yes, its a buck. Probably a 1 year old deer.
2. Different from #1. Looks like another 1 year old.
3. Yes, something is causing one antler to grow faster. Maybe an injury.
4. Doe
5. Hard to tell, but its a doe.
6. Different than #1. Another 1 year old.
7. Hard to tell on age, but at least 3. He is going to be a dandy!

Iím a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

I agree, but think deer 2 is 2. Lots more mass.

Agree and also say #2 is 2, and that last one will be a beauty! Nice pics!

I agree. Going by how much antler is on his head already and his body size he's probably a 3 year old. 4 year olds tend to have more of a potbelly than that guy does.

The growth deer #7 is showing as compared to the other pictures, I would think this deer shed his antlers a lot sooner. If this is the case, it would have had more time to grow the new set. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all for your thoughts and analysis! I'll update the thread with photos when I see the big guy again.

Last one shows great growth. Amazing creatures. Thanks for sharing. All these pics makes me think I should put out more cameras! I only have one out now. I take em down when I take the feeder down late winter.

Please put your WMU in your location! Helps! 3C

Re: Deer photos - age, gender, potential?

First one is a yearling buck, second is a 2 year old with a little better growth, third deer is a buck and does not look like a yearling but has something going on to mess up his antlers and it will be interesting to see how he ends up as one side seems to almost be growing from the side of his head, number 4 and 5 are both does, 6 is another small yearling, and the last one will definitely be a good buck. he has good mass and will have very nice brows. keep watching him he will be nice!
