Mineral Site

Just wondering when everyone thinks is the right time to set up the mineral sites? I am getting antsy since trail camera season is about here!

I won't be hunting anything until the fall so I have a salt block out now. Deer hit it every day. I don't keep a camera on it until May.

If starting a new site, I would get it out now so they have time to find it.

I put a trophy rock out 2 weeks ago and have had several does hitting it ! Its good for the does to help replenish themselves from winter and for birth of the fawns !

Blend in or go hungry !!

The past few weeks I've been getting a few sites picked and set up. Wont' put cameras on them yet, focused on food sources now, but I'll refresh them in June and start rotating cameras to find good bucks.

At our place in Ky, there are no restrictions on when you can have minerals available for the deer. I keep a couple locations stocked and have cameras on them year round. They see some occasional use from December through February, but use normally ramps up noticeably in early March, is heavy through the summer months, and tapers off in November.

This is the time of year thru March you should put out your mineral sites. Best to mix your own using Di Calcium Phosphate, Trace mineral salt, and regular white ice cream salt. A bag of each mixed goes a long way, the salt is cheap and the Di Calcium Phosphate is usually around 30 bucks for 50 pounds.

The older I get the better I was.
