My son and I have built and maintained several of these. It's a great project for this time of year and very rewarding each year when you see the hatchlings. Including the predator guard is very important to keep snakes and varmints out. If you are placing the box on your own property, I'd recommend using cedar over plywood or pine. More expensive but holds up MUCH better.

The older I get, the stronger gravity becomes.

Casey, how about a mallard nest too?? Got plans? Doing some habitat projects here and could use some nesting boxes, etc!!

Check this book out. http://www.amazon.com/Audubon-Birdho.../dp/0760342202 . Years ago the PGC used to sell a book on making different houses. I have a cuople of bat houses hanging about from there plans.
