woodchuck hunting

This is my fifth so far with the crossbow, I started with broadheads but was losing too many arrows, could not find them after they passed through. So I switched to judo points and still lost one arrow because it stuck in the woodchuck and he took it down the hole with him too far to reach him.
I took this one yesterday at 40 yards and again it stuck in him but I was able to get him back out of the hole.

Re: woodchuck hunting

Pick up some G5 small game heads. They function similar to a judo if you miss.I've killed a pile of woodchucks with them. The arrow rarely passes completely through but the head will.If you hit the vitals, they rarely make it back to the hole.

This. Those things are absolute DEATH on the smaller critters.

Thats awesome and no easy task for sure. I have tried several times but never connected. Congrats and thanks for posting.

Re: woodchuck hunting

Have you considered hard blunts and head shots? Just asking. Good shooting, BTW. I would not go reaching down any woodchuck hole without a welders glove on. There could be another one down there, and a cut tendon could rearrange your plans (medical records too).

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......
