shooting from elevated position ??

are there any rules of thumb when shooting from a elevated position for crossbows ,,( tenpoint turbo ) 345 FPS
say you are 15 feet up and target is 15 feet from tree thats a 45 degree down angle ,do you hold differently?? or say target is out 30 yards ,,less of a angle??

Re: shooting from elevated position ??

I generally sight in on the ground to hit about 1" below point of aim so wether I'm in a stand or on the ground, I'm still good...dead on in the stand and no issues from the ground. My Cyclone puts out a 440 grain bolt at an avg. 352fps btw.

I always aim for just behind the opposite shoulder. Hasn't failed me yet.

You don't have tio aim lower. You simply aim for whatever the horizontal distance is,regardless of how high you are.

Re: shooting from elevated position ??

I bought a Bushnell range finder this year with the angle compensation, with that and a new BOC Nikon scope I was set to go. Checked out all the distances around me first thing.
Then my buck walked within 12 yds and it didn't really matter!
The rangefinder is pretty cool.

+1 If you are using a rangefinder, range the distance to surrounding trees (or just eyeball estimate it) at the height you're at in your stand (not the diagonal distance to the base of the trees) and shoot at that horizontal distance when a deer is at the base of one of your landmark trees.

Re: shooting from elevated position ??

Like everyone else has said, you should be aiming for where you want the bolt to EXIT. If I have a deer standing broadside to me at say 15 yards, facing to my left, I am aimning for his RIGHT shoulder, about 1/3 the way up from the bottom of his chest, where I want the arrow to come out at. That way, you cross through more vital organs and don't risk hitting too high or too low.
