Ghost Blinds Do Work!!!

Went out this morning and set up my Ghost Blind and sat in it. Around 7:30am I saw a spike buck coming out to me, he got within 15 yards of me and never knew I was there. I watched him feed a little then he spied someting below him. I slowly turned my head in that direction and saw a doe. He went down to her and they both walked off. Around 8:15am I saw another buck coming out the same trail, I thought holy smokes!! He was bigger but only a 4 point, he walked within 8 yards of me. He got a little spooked though, I know he didn't smell me but he did one of those put your head down then jerk it up quick, I just chuckled to myself. Finally he walked off with his tail in the air stomping his front feet. Here is a pic of the bind:

Re: Ghost Blinds Do Work!!!

I thought the Ghost blind was illegal to use in PA becasue it does not cover you 360 degrees around you and over your head?...

From the Digest. Of note, the big game regs defer to the turkey regs for blind specs for some weird reason...

Blinds: The use of turkey blinds is legal under the following definition:
Any artificial or manufactured turkey blind consisting of all man-made
materials of sufficient density to block the detection of movement within
the blind from an observer outside the blind. Artificial or manufactured
turkey blinds consisting of all man-made materials means blinds must
be constructed of plastic, nylon, canvas, cotton cloth, plywood or other
man-made materials. Blinds made by piling rocks, logs, branches, etc.
are unlawful. The blind must completely enclose the hunter on all four
sides and from above to block the detection of movement within the
blind. When fluorescent orange is required at a stationary calling location
in fall seasons, at least 100 square inches must be displayed outside the
blind and within 15 feet of the blind, visible 360 degrees.

Notice where it says the use of TURKEY blinds? He's not hunting turkeys...

Re: Ghost Blinds Do Work!!!

Here you go, straight from the digest. It's perfectly legal.

Blinds: Blinds can be used for big game (see turkey section for specifics for blinds while turkey hunting), however, a minimum of 100 square inches of fluorescent orange material (orange alert band will suffice) must be displayed within 15 feet of the blind and visible in a 360-degree arc dur- ing the firearms deer, bear and elk seasons. This is in addition to wearing orange while in the blind.

Re: Ghost Blinds Do Work!!!

I just called the regional office up here and the dispatcher told me that any blind is legal for deer season but couldn't tell me where to find the actuall regs...Now the digest, all be it an abridged version of the regs, only states the types of blinds mentioned above, and refers all blinds for big game hunting to the turkey section. I looked through the actuall regulations set forth by the PGC and can only find those regs and the definition of a blind therein. In fact, the almost total LACK of regs regarding blinds and usagefor big game hunting in the regs, with exception to turkey hunting is a bit un settling imo. Oh well, if it's legal, I'm down.

Right. That's what I mean. All it says is they're legal, but then refers you to the turkey regs. In speaking to the PGC dispatcher and looking at the actuall regs, I see so little info it isn't even funny. BUT!...if I ever do get stopped for using my unbrella blind on the ground for archery deer, I at least have the dispacther's name and the date/time he gave me the go ahead. Absulotely NO OFFENSE meant to anyone on here either, but unless you are John S., R.W.J., or some of the other PGC officers that are members on here and are trained to KNOW the regs, I can't in good concience take your word for it. I like to be sure before I go out you know? Too much room for personal interperetation in the digest for this guy...

Ghost blinds are legal for deer and super cool. Put it along a edge of a field and they truly disappear.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

I may have to try one! I see a bunch of them on ebay lately for some pretty good prices.

Re: Ghost Blinds Do Work!!!

First sentence says blinds can be used for big game. Therefore, they are legal. The sentence in parenthesis says see turkey section for SPECIFICS on blinds WHILE TURKEY hunting. Therefore, turkey hunting blinds have separate regs which you can read about in the turkey section. It does not refer you to the turkey section to inform you about the use of blinds while hunting other big game. You just have to understand what you read. And you can trust me
