Illuminated reticles.

This is my first year with a crossbow so are they necessary? I have a non illuminated scope and I a wondering.

I don't think they are necessary at all. I had one and got rid of it because I didn't want to rely on a battery.

In most cases if you can see through the glass you can see the crosshairs.

Not necessary. They are kinda nice in low light, but definately not necessary. You can still see the crosshairs in legal shooting light.

Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!

I have two that feature illumination but I have never turned either of them on. If you buy a scope with good glass, I just don't see the need for illumination.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

well I love my Parker( HAWKE) red hot scope with green and red circle(s). If batt dies Its still a working scope. I used the red light to kill my doe right at dusk. with out I would never have taken the shot.
