Want a Crossbow

I spoke with someone at Arrowhead last year (a very nice man by the way)about crossbows but was unable to make it happen financially. I WILL have one this year. I want what everyone else wants....fast, reasonably quiet, accurate, dependable and affordable. Affordable is the key word in this entire text! To put it in perspective, I don't need a Mercedes Benz. I would be just as happy with a good quality dependable Ford or Chevrolet. I like the idea of a recurve as the general consesus seems to be they are less noisy and more reliable. I don't really know, this is just what I've heard. Any feedback I could get on the right one to buy from you guy's, the people who have them and know what they are talking about, would be greatly appreciated. Again, I don't want to pay for a name or something to impress anybody with. I want something to hunt with and put deer down. What it looks like our how many bells and whistles it has is irrelevant.
Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide

Re: Want a Crossbow

As far as dead solid reliable and no bells and whistles it is hard to beat the recurve Excalibur. They have a few that will be around $500-550 for the package.

You mentioned recurves being quieter. They are not. Recurve crossbows are typically louder than compounds with a bit more vibration.

For compound style, tough to beat Wicked Ridge. Affordable with great customer service backed by TenPoint.

I currently shoot TenPoint, Excalibur and Parker. TenPoint/Wicked Ridge and Excalibur are the brands I recommend most.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Re: Want a Crossbow

You might actually find a recurve a bit more noisy than a compound. I know I do. They also vibrate a little more, but they are extremely reliable and nearly indestructable.

I like the Excalibur Axiom and Ibex. They are 175 lb. and middle of the road in the line, but they come in at a great price for Excalibur quailty. I'm partial to the 175 lb. models and they are my all time favorites with the new barrel and lighter weight.

Wicked Ridge Warrior and Invader are both excellent crossbows too. There is also the Ten Point Titan Extreme.
