crossbow string silencers?????

Just bought a barnett jackal and its pretty loud! Does anyone have any suggestions on string silencers and limb vibrations dampeners. Its split limb.

Re: crossbow string silencers?????

I prefer the BowJax crossbow silencing kit. The make it for split limbs or solid. I usually forgo the string leeches as it slows the bow down. I do believe in the limb dampeners and retention spring dampener.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Dumb question. Why do you need string silencers on a cross bow? The ones I have seen are so darned fast - do you really need them. I have string silencers on my longbows but until now, I did not think crosssbows needed them.

Personally, I believe much of the noise suppression stuff out there is only there because archers are always looking for a silent bow. I don't think the deer give a hoot.

Re: crossbow string silencers?????

Well, how about deer "jumping the string" on a long bow? If the archer is cloes enough, then I agree with you. But, add in a bit of distance and a silent string could make the difference. But I always thought that crossbows were so fast that silincing the string is not important.

Sound travels roughly three times as fast as a crossbow bolt.

Vertical bows are shooting over 300 fps just as crossbows do. Not much of a difference.

Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!

Re: crossbow string silencers?????

you dont have to move with a crossbow so that helps alot, if everyone and their brother hunts with a crossbow in your area the deer will figure out the sound and start to jump the bolt. everyone says crossbows are loud, well of course there loud compaired to a compound, but stand 20yds or 30yds back from someone when they shoot one.

Re: crossbow string silencers?????

I've been useing the MonkeyTails by Matthews..on my buck commander,Xbows are loud and yes deer can jump or duck them..had it happen twice last season to me...So you can't totally quiet a xbow, but you can tame it alittle and that is what the monkey tails did and they will stayon the string..
