Re: Where are the deer?

timster: I am from a total different area, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada as I own property in both areas. This time of the year, bucks are out searching for new girl friends so they may not hang out in their home area. Different seasons produce different food sources. Weather, temperature, humidity and rain all will change a deer's pattern. Some deer if pressured, go nocturnal, (night time only). If there are numerous predators in the area, deer will either move out or the predator takes them. In my area, the last three winters have been extremely cold, deep snow and a long cold spring with little or no fresh vegetation. When a doe is pregnant and near calving time, they need this good quality feed. If this feed is not available they will abort. Older bucks may not survive the winter as they are run down from chasing does and haven't spent much time eating or sleeping. In one area my trail cameras picked up a wise old buck that came in three and sometimes four times during the night to feed on fallen apples. No picture or videos of him in the day time. This area was not pressured and being an old farm yard there was no one to disturb him much during day light hours. All the best.
