Outfitters and Crossbows

Does anyone know if any of our bordering states have any Whitetail outfitters that allow or encourage Crossbow hunting for Deer. I am thinking Ohio, Ny, maryland, WV, possibly Kentucky.

Thanks to all for any replies

Personal experiences would be great. I have never tried to use an outfitter before, but retirement looms next year and my wife has granted me her permission to persue the idea. I don't want to travel extrememly far and I do want fair chase, no high fence perserves.

Re: Outfitters and Crossbows

I have never been on guided hunt but I would imagine the outfitters in Ohio are ready, willing and able to welcome you and your crossbow. With 60% of archers using them there, fair to say that they are welcome.

HPA sponser http://www.premierhuntingadventures.com/ has a outfitter in Ohio that he recommends highly. I believe that quite a few HPA members have hunted there with good results. I am pretty sure he can set you in a productive direction.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Re: Outfitters and Crossbows

Maryland is crossbow friendly. I don't think you would need a guide to hunt there. I hunted Md. for many years. I can put you into some great areas and give advice if you want. Disclaimer: I'm not a guide and I won't be guiding you, but I will show you some of my favorite spots.
WV is out for a crossbow at the moment.

Arrowhead, thanks for the offer. I may take you up on that. I'll drop you a line early in the year. Maybe after the eastern Sports show in Harrisburg. That is usually when I start to get the bug for new things.

Part of the season. Early October and late season, crossbows are legal for everyone. I forget the exact dates, but generally speaking, they're not legal in September, and not legal during the rut, except with a disabled permit.
