How fast?

I'm looking to potentially get a crossbow in the coming months. I'll most likely continue to primarily hunt with my compound but I would like to see my dad use it mostly. I also like to tinker with new things. I've got a budget of $400 so nothing crazy. I've seen crossbows in my price range with speeds from 250-350fps. If I got a 250fps crossbow would I regret it? Should I be looking at a minimum fps? Would a 250fps bow be good to 35 yds?

Re: How fast?

Check out the Wicked Ridge line. Right around your price range and they have great customer service.

Re: How fast?

I wouldn't say that you would regret it, but I would get something of decent quality. The Wicked Widge Warrior is one I would look at. It is in the $400 range. Wicked Ridge is made by Tenpoint so you have great customer service if you need it. The ATA show is in a couple days and from what they are saying there is going to be a new bow or two in the Wicked Ridge line.

Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!

Re: How fast?

250 is very slow for a crossbow. In combination with a crossbows short arrows, it will lose energy fast. You can get good quality crossbows shooting in the low 300s for $300-$400 new. The Barnett Recruit, Raptor, Wicked Ridge Warrior.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Re: How fast?

if it was mee I would ask this question..

"ok so if I would want a crossbow that shot a 400-450 grain arrow at 300 fps whick ones fit the bill"

in a hunting situation speed dosent mean anything if you don't have the weight behind it..IMO
