Need advice ASAP

My son smoked a 4 point this morning 15 yard shot. Deer Kicked up I watched the Bolt go in blood came out and the deer was stubbling for 40 to 50 yards I thought he was going to fall over and did not. I tracked the deer for about 150 yards maybe 200, and the blood is decent. I think he hit the shoulder blade because I have not found the bolt yet. However the blood goes like this... quater size drops for 3 yards, splatter blood for 3 yards, then a lot of blood where he stood. I pulled out about 1.5 hours ago... saw the blood clearly going up the hill where I left the trail. Should I wait another hour... it is his first buck not a monster but I have to find this deer... oh the bolt was in the deer when it was stumbling away.

Also there is bubbles in the blood on occasion.

I agree, the day is young. Better off letting him get a chance to die. Go back out after lunch and you should not have an issue finding your sons buck hopefully

Re: Need advice ASAP

No need to rush it. The weather is nice. I would wait till later this afternoon to recover the deer.

Sounds like he's dead. Go back in an hour or two and recover him.

Re: Need advice ASAP

Agreed...just give it sometime, and you will be posting pics tonight.

The one my son got last year went right down, but we had to sit in the stand and watch it for quite a while before it died. it is hard to keep kids (or yourself when hunting with kids) not to get on the trail and get to the hugging and high fiving, but you need too.

Sounds to me like you will grinning soon...

Re: Need advice ASAP

If it's a shoulder blade shot, the chance of recovery is slim. There's nothing vital behind the shoulder blade except for the spine and if that was severed, the deer would be flopping on the ground. If it was a double lung hit,the deer would have been dead was sooner than where you left the trail.Without being there and seeing the impact or deer's reaction,it's almost impossible to say.Did you actually see the bolt sticking out of the deer?
