Be carefu!

I always joke crossbows are evil but a guy I know just lost the top of his thumb to his crossbow last night. When he fired it, he forgot to lock his thumb against the side and had it sticking up. The string hit him at the 1st joint and took it right off. This is the second friend I had injured by a cross bow. This latest one was definately the shooter's fault. The first one the xbow failed to fire. My buddy carefully removed the bolt and carried the xbow into his garage. When he attempted to place it on the work bench, it fired and the string struck him along the edge of his hand at the thumb. Shattered the bone and pealed the skin off. He's since recovered and trying to work things out with Parker. If you're going to use one, remember to keep your fingers well below and/or away from the rail! (And it doesn't hurt to have an old priest and a young priest around either )

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Yep. Something I can't stress enough when I am showing new users the ins and outs of them.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Re: Be carefu!

I use to give classes on x-bow use, and i always told the guys.
It won't bruise, or cut you, it will take your finger off!!!

Re: Be carefu!

Apparently they were able to sew the end of the thumb back on. Time will tell if the surgery was successful. He doesn't like his new nickname. Somehow he thinks "Thumbalina" is degrading?

Re: Be carefu!

that reminds me of a time when my fiance shot a compound bow and lets just say she`s around grapefruit size and forgot to allow herself some room to shoot. That was the last time she shot the bow, never again she said, and i said oh i forgot you had them.....lol.....after i checked her out, because we thought we had a serious problem and medical attention was going to be needed, it turns out everything was fine just red, scraped, and black and blue for a while and very sore.....we laughed about it later

Re: Be carefu!

You know, kruz, that would be classified as a "teachable moment". Pictures really should have been taken so people could adequately understand the inherent dangers involved.
