First time in tree stand. . .

with my crossbow. I have a Lone Wolf and waited until I was in the tree to cock it. That was a little precarious. Is it safe to cock it on the ground? I'm afraid of a dry fire.

Hunting hobby ended, now I'm a fly fisherman!

Cock it on the ground. Put it on safe. Pull it up with a rope tied to the stock end with no arrow in. when getting out be sure the arrows out and lower it with rope tied to stock.

I'm so far behind I think I'm in first place.

Yup. Cock it on the ground, put it on safe, pull it up once you're settled and load it for the hunt.
