split the wmus

can't find the thread now but there was talk of splitting 2g.most of it is forested but to different degrees of habitat.some of 2g has better habitat to support more deer so why not let those numbers increase?in other parts with poor habitat let status quo

Re: split the wmus

I would agree with that as long as they have the data to support it,which I haven't seen.I live and do most of my hunting in the southern part of 2G but do hunt a few times north of rt 120.There is absolutely no doubt that the habitat and deer herd are both starting to recover in the southern end.In the areas where I hunt in the northern part, habitat is still the limiting factor.Because of the terrain and lack of pressure,I don't see how hunters make much of an impact at all accross the northern section. In certain isolated area?Sure, but not overall.

Data ? Gimme a break Decisions are made socially now by using the ever scientific tool of RANDOM SURVEY.

Sorry, but I guess I'm still stunned. But there will be a conglomerate of folks post on here as to why it's the right way. If a non-PGC person would suggest allocating tags, and even remotely considering results from a "random survey", they would have been laughed and berated straight off this forum.

Re: split the wmus

Get ready for some really cold weather.
Actually, I think the commissioners probably have this one right. I don't support splitting WMUs if it is just to make them smaller, but I do support splitting them if there is enough difference in the proposed areas to make management better. I respect Commissioners Putnam and Delaney, and know that both have what is best for huning in PA firmly in mind.

Mutt.

Adding some ice water. I agree.

I agree Mutt but I really don't see it making much of a difference.I actually see it more as a feel good measure.

Re: split the wmus

Threads in General hunting and in Outdoor Issues. Both have the time stamps for the video.

General Hunting thread might be on page two now.

Is your position a short term gain - or a long term loss? Separate the issues.
