Reason for lack of deer

Just did a survey in the archery forum asking for the amount of deer that people saw. The options were "less than usual", "same as usual", and "more than usual". Over 75% of the people that answered said that they saw either less than the usual amount or the same amount.

So, my question is now, what caused this to happen?

Re: Reason for lack of deer

Well, all I can say is that my trail cameras were showing almost complete nocturnal deer movement this fall, and it started BEFORE any hunting season.

Re: Reason for lack of deer

I believe my lack of deer seen is the result of the poor hard mast crop. My stands are in areas that deer bed near and move through. When acorns are falling they have everything they need on "my hillside", no acorns, and I have to catch them moving in and of bedding areas.

Although I did have someone that hunts the adjacent property tell me last week "There aren't many deer around this year. Normally I'd have 4 or 5 doe killed by now." And you don't see the correlation there?!? Gotta love unlimited OTC tags in SRA's. Small woodlot populations get decimated while overall urban populations remain high.

Re: Reason for lack of deer

Guess i'm in the minority. Saw more deer then usual. Always seems to be that way, when every one else sees deer, i see few.

Your spot I NEVER go back
My spot I expect the same

Re: Reason for lack of deer

I have been seeing a lot of deer in 5 D buts that's expected, there are just so many deer in this area but I'll be rifle hunting in 3 A . I never know what to expect up there. There just isn't many hunters and because of that the deer aren't moving once they know it's dangerous!!

Re: Reason for lack of deer

I belonged to a hunting Club in NJ a few years ago and one of the guys would shoot a doe or 2 a week. NJ makes you bring your deer to check stations and they give you another tag each time. I said to the guy what is the point of killing 15 deer, do you have a walk in freezer??? Totally to many deer for one guy.

Re: Reason for lack of deer

I saw alot more deer this year than most years. We had no acorn crop so the deer were far more patternable and not spread out as much.
