Point Restriction

So the point rerstriction changed on the west side of the state to the 3 up rule from 4 on one side, so what if you see a buck with 2 up and a split brow tine, Is he legal?

Re: Point Restriction

No, the deer would need at least three points(on top) not including the brow tine on at least one antler to be legal.

Re: Point Restriction

As the fella above me stated, NO, but, it does bring up strange scenario, in that, "your" buck would have been legal last year as a "4 to a side" but not this year.

I do like the "3 up" rule, as through all the debates on here through the past, not a person could tell me that there is a biological (age) difference between a 3 up top with or without a brow.

Just plain rediculous. Dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

The deer didn't disappear.... the 250,000 guys who used to walk around and make the deer move did.

Tell us how you really feel HighCountry. I thought it was a honest question. It also goes to show how confusing the new rule change is going to be for some this season.

Re: Point Restriction

It's probably pretty rare for a buck with only two points up top to have split brows. Not impossible, but rare. If it looked like a mature buck, I'd probably shoot it and bring it to the game commission and show them. The rule is to let deer reach 2.5 years old so they should have no problem if the deer is much older.

Re: Point Restriction

Really, make sure you have your wallet out when you show it to them. The rule is 3 on top, not what you believe the intent is.

Not the OP or anyone responding. Just the rule change in general and the apparent lack of complete thought on the regulation. How does it make any sense to go from 4 point to one side to 3 up top, but a split brow 4 to one side cannot now be legal. They only needed to do one thing.

Add the word OR.

3 up top OR 4 to a side.

Re: Point Restriction

I would still love to see a report that shows why the western half of PA was 4 points to a side anyway.

I don't buy their explanation. Last time I drove throught the Harrisburg region, I saw lots of farms that didn't just pop up over night. I would think they've had as fertile of soil as the rest of the state. Certainly can't tell by some of the bruisers that have come out of the Lancaster area.
