Lack of fawns?

Is anyone else noticing a lack of fawn recruitment in their neck of the woods this year?

Re: Lack of fawns?

I have not been out scouting as much as usual this summer, but I have been seeing fawns. On Saturday, a doe with twins crossed the road in front of us less than half a mile from the cabin. Saturday evening we spotlighted a dozen does in a field, and all of them seemed to have spotted fawns with them. Recruitment looks good where I hunt.

Re: Lack of fawns?

I'm seeing now about what I usually see all over the South Central region. What I am seeing a lack of is turkey poults. I've seen more hens with out poults this year than any other year.

Re: Lack of fawns?

I started using trailcams last yr and for the second yr in a row I've noticed very few fawns/adult doe 6 fawns/10-12 adult doe both yrs. In my area way more bear and coyotes then we had a decade ago, and I seriously doubt the gameless commission has a handle on the impact of the increase of predators is having.Might be localized in my area though as both years, actually have more anterled deer then adult doe on camera. Bottom line is since I only hunt buck and I have 13 buck on 2 cameras about 150 yrd apart, I can't complain.

Re: Lack of fawns?

Probably the hunters are hammering the does in your area in the Fall and the bears and yotes are hammering the fawns in the spring and the PGC is still clueless that this scenario attributes to low deer populations.

Re: Lack of fawns?

Not seeing many in my areas of 3c and 3d but 5c is looking
good again. The turkeys do seem to have less poults this
year too.

I'd rather be fishing or hunting!

Re: Lack of fawns?

Love how you all blame the PGC because of predators when they are extending bear seasons into deer season across much of the state, starting bear season on saturday so more people can participate without taking off work, giving bow season for bear, and it's open season with no bag limit on coyotes. So who's clueless again? I'd say the ignorant hunters.
