State wide Anterless tag

what would happen if they just sold anterless tags that were good state wide instead of WMU specific ?

i know some WMU's sell out, some dont.

Antlered tags are good state wide.

Over harvest in some parts and under harvest in others. The PGC always wants sound wildlife practices. This would be an action as they just gave up and went political...Not a good idea.

I would like to see it. Do away with the county treasures and control populations by season length, bonus tags and MANDATORY REPORTING. If you don't report a kill or no kill at the end of the season then you are not eligible to buy a license the following year. We all know this won't happen because it would inconvenience some people and affect the Game Commisions revenue.

In states that don't have nearly as many hunters as PA, a state wide antlerless tag can work. PA just has too many hunters in too small an area to do it. Kswiggy is right. The result would be gross over harvest in some areas and gross under harvest in others. There has to be a rhyme or reason to do things and as things are right now, there is no valid reason to have a statewide antlerless tag. A lot of WMU's in PA are very different and must be managed as such.

issue the tag as a state wide tag and then it can be good only on certain days, instead of 6 weeks for archery, one week during rifle, just certain days.

I'd much rather have the unit tag and use it when I want than have a statewide tag and be told when I can use it. This just ain't going to happen until we have far, far fewer hunters in this state.

Seriously? That would be an enforcement nightmare (specific day tag). Is there something wrong with the current WMU tag system??? OK, yes the county treasurer needs to go.

Antlerless seasons are intended as a deer management tool. What management benefit would there be in a statewide antlerless license?

Day Specific Tag

If there was a day specific tag hunters who didn't get the 1st day tag would be protesting in Harrisburg....silly idea for a state with 600,00 deer hunters.

And buck tags should be sold based on the number of antler points you want to shoot. You would have to buy a tag based on antler points and you could not shoot one unless it matches your tag. ( seems everyone lets the small ones walk anyway)Trophy buck tags for ten pointers and up would cost twice as much and there would be limited numbers sold in each category in two point increments. Holder of tags could shoot one point less or one point more except in the trophy range when only one point more would be legal.
Doe license issued with general license good statewide. If one area is over hunted hunters would just have to find another spot to hunt.
Single shot rifles and shotguns only for deer to make it fair to the archery hunters who only can load one arrow or bolt at a time. It would only be fair when all seasons open together each fall. Seems reasonable. Waugh!
