Bad number

There is a bad number for the post deer population in 2D which leads to more antlerless tags being asked then needed. Bet the number is still there this yr when they do the calculations. Here are the numbers

Post hunt deer populations

2008 69,732
2009 88,666
2010 86,493
2011 101,182
2012 102,440
2013 113,774
2014 144,084 *
2015 110,214

My bet is that 2014 number should be 114,084.

Re: Bad number

Why would you think the number for 2014 was wrong? Based on the fact that the 2014 deer harvest for both bucks and does was considerably lower than normal, for unit 2D, it is perfectly logical that the post season population would be increased.

Re: Bad number

Post deer may be right to go up as we had buck only first week?

Re: Bad number

It appears they killed 7,000 less in 2D in 2014 than the year prior, most likely due to the weather.

Seems logical to me...

Re: Bad number

Unless we had something like a hemorrhagic disease outbreak which we didn't mathematically impossible. The Herd increased 27% and the buck kill decreased 17% and the antlerless kill decreased 24%. That in itself could happen but then the following yr the herd decreased pre 2013 levels. you had a post hunt herd of 113k kill 35.3k deer have the herd explode to 144k only kill 27.8k deer and have the herd drop to 110k. mathematically impossible.

Re: Bad number

that would be logical except then the post deer herd dropped by 34k deer, it should go up.
