New resource management center and storage building planned for Delaware State Forest
A new state of the art Resource Management Center and a storage building are planned for construction in the Delaware State Forest in 2016. These new facilities will provide for forestry management and administrative functions, forest ranger operations, forest visitor contact point, staff and public meetings, presentations, and trainings, and equipment and vehicle storage. The facility and site development will incorporate proven, economical sustainable techniques and technologies that result in an energy efficient and environmentally sustainable facility that reflects DCNRís mission, supports visitor connections with the outdoors, and demonstrates responsible stewardship of the natural environment.
The Palumbo Group from Scranton has been named as the awarded design team of the 8.4 million dollar project. It will replace the existing office and move the existing forestry administration functions to a location connected to larger state forest lands. The new facilities will be located at the intersection of Bushkill Road and SR 402, Porter Township, Pike County; and, directly across the road from the Burnt Mills ATV Trailhead.
Enhance Pennís Woods is a 2-year, more than 200 million effort to repair and upgrade our natural treasures. The department estimates about 200 projects will be covered under the 2-year investment that will include road, dam, bridge and other infrastructure repair, public access improvement projects and key land acquisitions.
