Dislike for AR

I'm sure some (many?) like it but I hunt for meat and not bragging rights to antlers. I'm 66 and have killed my share of bucks, from spikes to 9 pointers, and no longer care how many points they have. This year, I have had 5 non-legal bucks parade past me, and all I see is steaks and burgers walking away. I'd like to see seniors be able to shoot any buck that we wish. Hey, there aren't that many of us old guys out there anymore!

The spirit of our day is a soft acceptance of everything—except deep conviction in anything.

Re: Dislike for AR

What is the general history of antler restrictions in PA? I have grown up with and am used to them but I don't know exactly when and why they were put in place. I'm curious to see if they're accomplishing what they set out to be.

Also, I definitely agree that seniors shouldn't have to follow the antler restrictions. You old timers can't see as well as you used to

It's the lighting, and it is largely a regional problem. For instance, I'm in a WMU where the lighting allows seniors to see brow tines.

Yes i hear the light is pretty poor in some areas , and there you dont have to look for brow tines.

Re: Dislike for AR

AR is a good thing. I didn't like it at first but we are reaping the benefits. The public land I hunt in 2F has produced some great bucks. Heck we have had 2 dandy bucks taken in the last 3 years out of camp that would have been a pipe dream years ago when a little 4 was an accomplishment. Most of the hunters I see these days are senior hunters or very close to it. AR is an all or nothing thing.I agree deer numbers are not great but changing AR isn't going to help. I am a meat hunter and if it is legal I will shoot but I like having the hope that a wall hanger is around the next bend where as before it was rare for me to see a buck
