HSUS: Hunters Mean - Contraceptives Good

Part 1 of three articles by HSUS on the use of contraceptives on deer.

And now - the new initiative to surgically sterilize deer.

Out of Season

Culling abundant deer populations is controversial and ineffective. The HSUS is helping create humane alternatives.

All Animals magazine, May/June 2014

Wildlife contraception is transforming the way humans manage animal populations, replacing bullets with birth control. In the first story of this three-part series, All Animals looks at what pioneering methods like the PZP vaccine mean for white-tailed deer. Future stories will examine the implications for wild horses and African elephants.

Know your enemy - read and understand. Then be very aware they are well funded and they have access to our schools to poison the minds of our kids and grand kids.

Just calling them names and opposing the message isn't going to win the day. They have a full court press on.

More believe it every day as demographics continue to change.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

If some of these peoples parents should have used protection. And if their families of long ago did not hunt they would not be here today.

Re: HSUS: Hunters Mean - Contraceptives Good

like most other eco friendly stuff, it costs alot & is only effective in small areas under certain conditions. a novel experiment with feel good side effects for a few people, but basically like peeing in the ocean, no?

But appealing to the uninformed and gullible that pressure the powers that be.

FYI - at present the GC BOC has a standing policy not to allow any contraceptive use in PA and the policy is available for viewing in the GC BOC Policy Manual.

It requires a public vote to change the policy.

I want to be on the jury when the first person sues from the possible side effects. Waugh!

BTW they do get it when talking about lyme disease. Many don't.

Re: HSUS: Hunters Mean - Contraceptives Good

If something like this (contraceptives) would ever become the common way to control deer populations, are they going to devolp and use them on ALL wild life?

Without hunting what choice would they have?

Where would the funding for such a program come from...tax payers?

If this were to become a serious issue it would be best to remind the public to THINK before they vote, deer would be ONLY the begenning.

Re: HSUS: Hunters Mean - Contraceptives Good

At this point, the PA Department of Ag has total control to approve animal contraceptives in Pennsylvania.

If you recall, several years ago they approved Gongra Gon (SP) or something like that.

The response was the GC BOC voted to not allow any contraceptives for use on wildlife in this state. That unless there was a very specific, unhuntable, and a major problem somewhere. They voted on it, and it resides as a lawful regulation in code and the BOC GC Policy Manuel.
