Preliminary Deer Harvest

From today's PGC presentation to the House Game and Fisheries Committee:

I would like to begin by addressing several of our wildlife-management issues. Of particular interest to you, as well as the public, is the success of our hunters and furtakers during the 2012-13 hunting seasons.

Based on the sex, age, and kill (SAK) data collected by our 33 deer-aging teams, which examined 26,000 deer and hunter-harvest reports, we estimate that our hunters harvested 343,110 deer during the combined deer seasons in 2012-13.

The antlered harvest was 133,860 and the antlerless harvest was 209,250. The antlered harvest was a 5 percent increase over the harvest in 2011-12 and the antlerless harvest was very similar to the 2011-12 harvest.

In comparison to years prior to the implementation of antler restrictions, the age structure and the number of 2.5-year-old and older bucks have increased.

Archery hunters were responsible for 32 percent of the total antlered deer harvest, and 48 percent of the archery antlered harvest was taken by individuals using crossbows

Re: Preliminary Deer Harvest

Are these 2012/13 numbers? They look like it.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

Last years numbers, it's still a little early for 2013/2014 numbers.

I've spent most of my money on Waterfowling, Women and Whiskey.
The rest of my money I just wasted.

Re: Preliminary Deer Harvest

Little odd that the figures released last spring, would be reiterated at today's meeting, isn't it?

Numbers for the current year are usually released in March, ahead of the April BOC meeting.

Re: Preliminary Deer Harvest

All 125 pages of the report

The report is all old news, especially when you get to the Waterfowl news. It gives regulations and bag limits for the 2012/2013 season. Not sure why they'd present something like this??

Re: Preliminary Deer Harvest

Because the 2013 / 2014 season and fiscal year are not done yet.

See, if they really wanted oversight (legislators) they would get this report in the fall of each year. instead, the legislature waits to just before the April meeting where season and bag limits are set. The better to bash and use the office for personal gain influence.

I found it strange that Causer had the video of the hearing posted on his personal office website - but it wasn't available on the House G&F committee web page.

Reportedly, he stated that the GC is getting to much land and becoming a land baron.

I do think he is off the reservation and nearly anti hunting. He surely doesn't have the best long term ideas for hunting and trapping in mind as the chair of the House F&G committee.

Ethical issues as well as he seems to be co opting taxpayer paid for video for personal use.

Is your position a short term gain - or a long term loss? Separate the issues.

Re: Preliminary Deer Harvest

48 percent of the archery antlered harvest was taken by individuals using crossbows. So its split 52/48 already wow

What I say might not be the popular trend but at least Im not afraid to speak my mind!
