A story I forgot about

I ran into an old family friend the other day and we got to talking and he brought up the story when my dad took him out on his first deer hunt many years ago because his father had to work.
My dad sat him down in a spot and gave him instruction on what to do if a deer pops out. Well, before long here comes one running by. He checked....yep, buck. He shoots, shoots again, shoots again, RELOADS.....shoots a few more times. He finally went over to the poor thing with broken legs and hip....etc but it was still trying to get up to run. At that point he yelled down the hill to my dad "I'm out of bullets and it's still moving". He said out of nowhere came about 15-20 other hunters wanting to put the last one in it so they could claim it. My dad showed up just in time to finish the job and take the swiss cheese deer home.

Re: A story I forgot about

Reminds me of hunting with my grandfather(rip). I was sitting with my grandfather, and I figured it was his last year for hunting, I let him have the shot on a doe on the last day of the 3 day season.

He shot, she dropped like a brick, stood back up and just stood there! He shot again, and the same thing happened. We kind of looked at each other, and I put one from my 44-40 in her head, and she didn't get back up.

He hit her in the boiler room both times, but they were very small holes due to no expansion. My dad came down and figured out there are FMJ's in the rifle, but he has no idea where they came from...that rifle had only seen rem. 165 gr. core loct's. When we looked in his new rem. box at his house, it was full of LC ammo.

Internet quotes are great, but most are untrue. "Thomas Jefferson"
